Daniel Tobias Behan – Foxglove Journal

The Tree – Daniel Tobias Behan

I spoke with

the tree-man,

and he told me

how deep his

roots buried

into the Earth;

connected

through moss,

rock, and soil,

to places far

and wide –

they held

knowledge

humanity had yet

to even consider.

His trunk, he

told me, contained

layers in concentric

rings, infused

with memories

of all people who

had passed

him by over

the years.

His branches,

he said,

kept secrets

of the birds,

who sang him

tales of their

dinosaur ancestors –

his leaves

communed, with

the sun,

wind, stars,

sky, and moon,

about the

state of affairs

across the galaxy.

Daniel Tobias Behan is a London born-and-based poet. From 2017 to 2019, Daniel performed regularly at the London Irish Centre, Camden; in 2018 Daniel was interviewed by the Irish Post as part of their London Calling podcast series, and in 2020 had a short film made of ‘The Visit’ featuring acclaimed actor Nora Connolly and directed by Patrick O’Mahony, was interviewed for Wombwell Rainbow, and commenced a poetry series ‘Findings’ on channillo.com.

Dawn-break

over water –

cold depths she runs

in her course;

shifting blue-grey

and orange juice

canvas, of

painted sky’s

mirroring;

sombre: her

undulating

ice-flow

belies the

busyness

of city-day

scurrying.

lung breathes

new song, of

love beautiful;

dreaming

heart-drum

ever beating the

rhythm-shape of life;

the one whose

ear births

new ways

of hearing me,

here, being with me;

who grows

ever stronger

than ever will I

forever love you.

Love Of Mine – Daniel Tobias Behan

Love

of mine,

so are you

forged, in

muted

yearnings;

murmured

remembrances –

hushed yellowed

keys, of

sun-smile’s

faded verse

beaming;

measured, in

amber leaf’s

fractured shade

crumbled,

into moist

earthen-bed;

in words

cast gently,

through

shimmering

refractions

of deep sky’s

sonorous

canvas,

impressed

in cotton

cloud-floss,

singed, by

skirting

of emerald pine

sparkling;

in kiss of

frost-tendered

mountainside,

in sweetest

whispered

breath’s

exaltation.

My love,

such

are you

birthed,

in ballad

of thick root,

and fragrant

moss-lined soil;

in beetle

and bug’s

scurrying;

ant’s nest, bush,

and tree trunk:

the soft

underfoot

crackling

of scattered

parts: bark,

and branch,

seed,

and twig.

Since late 2017, Daniel has performed regularly at the London Irish Centre, Camden, and was interviewed by the Irish Post as part of their London Calling podcast series. Daniel sees creative writing, and especially poetry, as a great natural form of therapy and creative self-development, allowing thoughts and emotions to be communicated effectively in a non-linear fashion.
